Cracked worktops
Why worktops crack, and what has to happen first
Cracks rarely appear on their own. The most common causes are:
- Uneven or moving base cabinets
- Excessive weight on a joint
- A poorly made joint
- Subsidence or movement in the building
The underlying cause must be resolved before a crack is repaired. If it is not, we cannot guarantee a successful repair. An exact shade match also cannot be guaranteed, because solid surface adhesives are colour-batch coded. One of our installers can inspect the worktop on site, and the quote is free and no-obligation.
FAQs
Worktop repair and repolishing questions
How much does it cost to repolish solid surface worktops?
A standard repolish of solid surface worktops is £350 + VAT. It removes most everyday scratches and brings back an even finish. Heavier damage, chips and cracks are priced separately once we have seen photos or inspected the worktop.
Is £350 + VAT the price for every repair?
No. £350 + VAT is for a standard solid surface repolish. Chip repairs, crack repairs, severe damage and quartz work are separate services and are quoted after assessment.
Can you repair quartz worktops?
Often, yes. Quartz repairs depend on how severe the chip or damage is, so we price them individually after seeing clear photos or inspecting the worktop.
Can a cracked worktop be repaired?
Many cracks can be repaired, but the cause must be fixed first. Cracks are usually caused by uneven cabinets, too much weight on a joint, a poor joint or subsidence. If the cause is not resolved, the crack can return and a successful repair cannot be guaranteed.
Will the repair match my worktop colour exactly?
We get as close as possible, but an exact shade match cannot be guaranteed. Solid surface adhesives are colour-batch coded, so a repair can look very slightly different from the original sheet.
Do you work out of hours at commercial premises?
Yes. Out-of-hours work at live commercial premises, such as restaurants, cafés, offices and shops, is an extra £100 + VAT.
What photos should I send?
For a repolish, send one photo of the whole worktop and close-ups of the damage with a coin beside it for scale. For a crack, also send a photo of the whole kitchen, a close-up of the crack with a coin, what sits underneath the crack, and tell us whether it runs through a joint. Short videos help too. This applies to Staron and other solid surface worktops.
Do you need to visit before quoting?
Not usually. Clear photos and videos are normally enough. If they are not, or the damage is severe, one of our installers can inspect the worktop on site before we confirm a price.
